Long-Term Car Lease in Dubai: 12, 24 & 36-Month Costs (2026)

Over one to three years, one number decides which product costs less: what the car is worth when you stop paying.

How much does a long-term car lease cost in Dubai, and what are you being quoted?

A long-term car lease in Dubai is a contract for one car over 12, 24 or 36 months. In October 2026 budget cars lease from under AED 2,000 a month on all-inclusive plans. Mercedes-Benz Abu Dhabi advertises a new GLC 200 4MATIC from AED 4,999 a month on a 12-month package, and renting a 2024–25 GLC 200 by the month costs AED 8,999–12,000. On our lease-to-own plans, where the car becomes yours, the median car in our fleet is from AED 9,395 a month at 20% down over 36 months (24 on some cars), with insurance and registration paid once a year on top.

Which of these costs less over two or three years comes down to one number: what the car is worth when you stop paying. A rental or an operating lease leaves you nothing to sell. Lease-to-own costs more each month and leaves you a car. Below we work through the 12-, 24- and 36-month arithmetic on real cars and real rental quotes, including the cases where we lose.

First, know which product is in front of you. Most quotes are for an operating lease, which is really a long rental. Hertz UAE draws the line simply: hire for less than 12 months is a rental, anything longer is a lease. The lessor owns the car for the whole contract, the monthly bundles insurance, registration and servicing, and at the end you hand the keys back.

Operating lease (long rental). Hertz Personal Leasing, backed by Al-Futtaim, runs 12, 24 or 36 months with up to 30,000 km a year. Diamondlease, part of Al Habtoor Group, offers full-service leases from 12 up to 48 months, with registration, insurance, servicing, a replacement car and fine and Salik management included. Selfdrive leases cars for 12 to 36 months with insurance, maintenance, registration and roadside support included. On their standard leases you usually hand the car back, though Hertz also offers a purchase at a pre-agreed value. Selfdrive also offers a lease-to-own option on some vehicles; see the note on hybrid offers below.

Lease-to-own, which is what we sell. We buy the car, it stays registered to our company for the term, and it becomes yours after the last payment. The monthly covers the car itself, with GPS fitted at no charge. Comprehensive insurance and RTA registration come as one separate payment a year: 5% of the car's price, minimum AED 8,000. Routine servicing is yours. Terms are 12, 24 or 36 months.

Bank auto loan, for contrast. The car is in your name with the bank's lien on it. Central Bank rules cap the loan at 80% of the car's value, so you need 20% down, and cap the term at 60 months.

Hybrid offers. More dealers and lessors now add a lease-to-own option to all-inclusive monthlies. Nissan Dubai advertises a Patrol lease-to-own from AED 2,899 a month excluding VAT, with zero down available and insurance, servicing and registration included; the page gives no term or end-of-term price, and terms and conditions apply. Mercedes-Benz Abu Dhabi lists a lease-to-own option on its GLC pages, and Selfdrive offers one on some vehicles. Before comparing any lease-to-own offer, ask in writing for the term and any amount due at the end.

This guide covers one- to three-year horizons. If you are weighing a rolling monthly rental against a single 12-month commitment, our short-term lease guide works through that break-even in detail.

What do Dubai lessors publish for 12- to 36-month leases in 2026?

The prices below were checked on 4 October 2026 unless another date is given. Treat them as benchmarks, not quotes: every lessor prices to the car, the term, the mileage and your credit file.

Budget new cars, all-inclusive. Selfdrive starts from AED 1,849 a month excluding VAT for a Lynk & Co Model 6, with a 2026 Skoda Kodiaq at AED 1,999 excluding VAT. Dollar UAE advertises long-term leasing from as little as AED 1,200 a month, and its 2026 comparison puts a mid-range saloon at about AED 2,200–2,500 a month on a 12-month lease, against AED 2,800–3,200 on a flexible monthly contract. Several of the cheapest offers in this band are Chinese brands, which we do not lease.

Franchised-dealer prices for new premium cars. Mercedes-Benz Abu Dhabi's leasing overview lists monthly figures of AED 1,999 for an A200, AED 3,999 for a C 200 Premium, AED 4,999 for a GLC 200 4MATIC, AED 5,500 for a GLC 200 4MATIC Coupé, AED 5,999 for an E300, AED 9,999 for a GLE 450 and AED 12,999 for a GLS 450. The terms sit on each model page. The two we read, the GLC and the GLC Coupé, price a 12-month package with 25,000 km and a down payment of unstated size, with 24 and 36 months available. Insurance, servicing and maintenance, registration and a replacement car are included, there is a lease-to-own option, and the page does not say whether VAT is in the price. Before you set AED 4,999 against another quote, ask for the down payment, the 24- or 36-month price and the VAT position.

Full-service lessors. Diamondlease and Hertz do not publish prices for individual premium leases. Every quote is on request.

Premium monthly rental, the closest public benchmark. On the OneClickDrive marketplace, a 2024–25 Mercedes GLC 200 or GLC 200 Coupé rents for AED 8,999–12,000 a month, with one listing at AED 14,999, usually with 4,500–5,000 km a month included. An older GLC 300 from 2021–2024 rents for AED 4,499–7,500. A 2024–26 Nissan Patrol runs from AED 6,999 to AED 12,500, and the new-generation 2026 SE Platinum City V6 was listed at AED 11,500 and AED 11,999.

Our side. The median across the 46 cars we lease today, from AED 9,395 a month at 20% down over 36 months (24 on cars offered up to 24 months), is the car only, with the annual payment on top. Our car lease cost analysis splits the fleet into budget bands.

One warning before you compare: some lessors quote excluding VAT and some including it, and some quote with an advance and some without. Compare totals over the same term, not headline monthlies.

How is a lease payment calculated, and why does the term change it?

An operating lease prices three things into the monthly: the depreciation the lessor expects over your term, its margin, and the bundled services. The car's expected value at the end, the residual, does most of the work. Gulf News reported in December 2024 that UAE residuals are often estimated at 50–60% of the original value and that three years is the most common term. A longer term spreads the depreciation, so the monthly falls.

Our lease-to-own price is simpler, and we show it in full. A flat 24% a year applies to the amount after the down payment, with no compounding. The down payment counts as payment number one, so a 24-month contract with a down payment has 23 monthlies after it:

Monthly = (price − down payment) × (1 + 0.24 × years) ÷ (months − 1)

On zero down every payment is a monthly, so you divide by the full number of months.

Take a 2023 Mercedes GLC 200 4MATIC Coupé from our fleet, priced at AED 200,000. On top of the monthly comes the 5% annual payment, AED 10,000 on this car, charged once a year:

  • 20% down (AED 40,000 on this car): from AED 18,036 a month over 12 months (11 monthlies), from AED 10,296 over 24 months (23 monthlies), from AED 7,863 over 36 months (35 monthlies)
  • Zero down: from AED 20,667 a month over 12 months, from AED 12,333 over 24 months, from AED 9,556 over 36 months

The 12-month figure looks shocking next to a rental because it is a different thing. You are paying off the car in a year, not renting it for a year.

Zero down is available on 12- and 24-month plans. On 36 months it is available on selected cars, and this GLC is one of them. Otherwise plans start from 20% down.

Is a 2-year car lease cheaper than renting? The GLC arithmetic

Two years is where the products are closest, so it is worth doing properly. Put the same GLC against a rented 2024–25 GLC 200.

Renting. At AED 9,000, 10,500 or 12,000 a month, 24 months costs AED 216,000, 252,000 or 288,000. Insurance, registration and servicing are included. At the end you have nothing to sell.

Lease-to-own at 20% down. On day one you pay from AED 50,000: the 20% down payment (AED 40,000 on this car) plus the first 5% annual payment (AED 10,000). Then come 23 monthlies from AED 10,296, and the second annual payment at the start of year two. The contract totals from AED 296,808. Servicing is on you. Mercedes services a GLC every 12 months or 15,000 km, whichever comes first, and at an independent Mercedes specialist in Dubai a minor service costs from AED 1,188 and a major one from AED 1,620, both excluding VAT. That is about AED 2,950 for two services at average mileage, more if you drive the full 25,000 km a year, plus a set of tyres at that mileage. Counting servicing, call it about AED 299,750.

What decides it is what the car is worth when you finish. Subtract the rental total from the lease-to-own total and you get the break-even resale value, the price the GLC must fetch for owning to cost the same as renting:

  • Against an AED 9,000 rental: about AED 83,750
  • Against an AED 10,500 rental: about AED 47,750
  • Against an AED 12,000 rental: about AED 11,750

Now the reality check. This 2023 car will be five years old when the 24 months end. In October 2026, five-year-old 2021 GLC 200s were listed on DubiCars at AED 95,000–119,750, with 46,000–109,000 km on them. Those are asking prices, and a dealer buying your car will offer less. Sell privately at the bottom of that range, AED 95,000, and owning costs a net of about AED 8,530 a month, counting your servicing costs. Trade in to a dealer at, say, AED 85,000 and it is about AED 8,950. Renting a car a year or two newer costs AED 9,000–12,000.

So over two years lease-to-own beats the AED 10,500–12,000 rentals however you sell, and is roughly level with the cheapest GLC rental if you trade in, provided a day-one payment from AED 50,000 does not strain you. It loses to a cheaper GLC 300 rental (2021–2024, including a 2023 car at AED 7,500). Someone happy in a 2021–2024 GLC 300 at AED 4,499–7,500 a month would need our GLC to resell for about AED 120,000–192,000 to break even, and a five-year-old car will not get there.

Zero down changes the shape, not the answer. With no down payment, day one is from AED 22,333 (the first monthly plus the annual payment) and the monthly is from AED 12,333. The total rises to from AED 315,992: AED 19,184 more in exchange for AED 27,667 less on day one.

Does the answer change on a Nissan Patrol?

Our fleet includes 2024 Nissan Patrol SE Platinum City V6s at AED 185,000, offered on 12- and 24-month plans. Over 24 months at 20% down the monthly is from AED 9,523, and day one is from AED 46,250: the 20% down payment (AED 37,000 on this car) plus the 5% annual payment (AED 9,250). The contract totals from AED 274,529. With zero down the monthly is from AED 11,408, day one is from AED 20,658 and the total is from AED 292,292.

Rented Patrols span a wide range. Against the cheapest 2024 car we found, at AED 6,999 a month, 24 months of rent costs AED 167,976, so our Patrol would need to resell for about AED 106,550 to break even, before servicing. Against a 2026 SE Platinum City V6 at AED 11,500 a month, 24 months of rent is AED 276,000, slightly more than our whole 20%-down contract. That rental car is a newer generation with a different engine, so this is not like for like, and our side still has servicing to add. Even so, the two cost roughly the same before the car's value is counted at all, and the Patrol you own at the end is the difference.

The lesson is not that one product always wins. Compare like with like: the same model, a similar age, the same term and the same treatment of servicing. The rental quote you pick moves the answer more than anything else.

Is a 3-year car lease worth it, and when does a dealer lease win?

Three years gives lease-to-own the most room: the rental bill keeps growing month after month, while on our plan you still end up with the car.

Our GLC over 36 months at 20% down: from AED 50,000 on day one, then 35 monthlies from AED 7,863, plus the 5% annual payment (AED 10,000 on this car) in each of the three years. The total is from AED 345,205. With zero down, which this car offers over 36 months, the monthly is from AED 9,556, day one is from AED 19,556 and the total is from AED 374,016.

Renting a 2024–25 GLC 200 for the same three years at AED 9,000–12,000 a month costs AED 324,000–432,000. Servicing on our side comes to about AED 4,200 for three services at average mileage, more at the full 25,000 km a year, plus a set of tyres. Counting it, the break-even resale against the AED 9,000 rental is only about AED 25,400. Against AED 12,000, the lease-to-own contract costs less in total before the car is worth anything.

The car will be six years old at the end. Six-year-old 2020 GLC 200s and 300s were listed on DubiCars in October 2026 from AED 79,000, for a GLC 200 4MATIC with 103,000 km, up to about AED 140,000 for a low-mileage GLC 300. Sell privately at AED 79,000 and our 36-month plan nets out at about AED 7,510 a month, counting your servicing costs. Trade in at, say, AED 70,000 and it is about AED 7,760. Either way it is below the AED 9,000–12,000 it costs to rent a newer GLC.

Where we lose. If you want a brand-new car every few years and are happy to hand it back, a franchised-dealer lease can cost less per month than our plan on a comparable car. Mercedes-Benz Abu Dhabi advertises a new GLC 200 4MATIC from AED 4,999 a month on a 12-month, 25,000 km package, with insurance, servicing and registration included and a down payment of unstated size. Our figures here are for 36 months, so ask Mercedes for its 36-month price, the down payment and the VAT position, and compare totals. If the 36-month price lands anywhere near the 12-month one, a new car with servicing included would beat our net cost of about AED 7,500 a month on a 2023 car. Mercedes also lists a lease-to-own option: ask for its term, its total and any amount due at the end, and set that next to ours. Against an AED 7,500 GLC 300 rental, 36 months is roughly level with a private sale at AED 79,000, and against AED 4,499 renting wins.

Two years or three? On lease-to-own a longer term lowers the monthly but raises the total, because the 24% a year runs for longer and there is a third annual payment. On the GLC, 36 months totals AED 48,397 more than 24 months. Choose the term you are confident you will stay for. Settling the contract early to take the car carries no penalty on our lease, so a longer term does not lock you out of paying off sooner. Ask us for the settlement figure at month 12 or 24 before you choose the longer term.

Are 1-year car lease deals in Dubai worth it?

If you need a car for one year and will then leave, change cars or see how life settles, rent or take an operating lease. Lease-to-own over 12 months on the GLC means from AED 50,000 on day one, then from AED 18,036 a month, and the contract totals from AED 248,396. Against a year of renting at AED 12,000 or AED 9,000 a month (AED 144,000 or AED 108,000), the GLC would need to resell after one year for about AED 104,400 or AED 140,400, before servicing.

The few four-year-old 2022 GLCs listed in Dubai in October 2026 were asking AED 85,000–149,000, so the numbers work only against the top of the rental range, and only if you sell near the upper end of that range. You also carry a monthly from AED 18,036 and have to sell the car yourself at the end. A 12-month lease-to-own makes sense for someone who wants a paid-off car fast and has the income for it, such as a business owner clearing a car within one financial year.

Reading "1 year lease car deals". Rental firms often sweeten a 12-month commitment. One UAE rental site's published lease policy offers a 20% discount and one free month on a full year, takes a deposit equal to one month's rent plus the first month's rent, and charges one extra month's rent if you return the car early. A free 13th month for paying 12 is worth about 7.7% off the effective monthly. Ask two things in writing: whether you lose the free month if you leave early, and what the total owed is at month six.

What does "all-inclusive" cover on each kind of lease?

On an operating lease or long rental, the monthly usually includes comprehensive insurance, registration, scheduled servicing, roadside assistance and a replacement car while yours is in the workshop. Hertz adds Personal Accident Insurance and a free additional driver for the term. Usually excluded: fuel, Salik, traffic fines, damage beyond fair wear and tear, and kilometres over the cap. Tyres and brakes vary by contract, so ask.

On our lease, the cost splits into two fixed payments plus your running costs:

  • The monthly covers the car, GPS tracking (fitted free) and our administration.
  • The annual payment, 5% of the car's price with a minimum of AED 8,000, covers comprehensive insurance from a UAE insurer and RTA registration. We handle the renewal every year.
  • Yours to pay: fuel, Salik, traffic fines, excess kilometres and routine servicing, meaning oil, tyres and brake pads.

Apart from the down payment (if any), the monthly and the annual payment, the only routine charges we bill are a larger mileage package if you choose one and kilometres over your allowance. Budget for servicing honestly, at the specialist prices above: it is the real difference against an all-inclusive monthly, and it belongs in your comparison.

What documents do you need for a long-term car lease in Dubai?

A typical operating lease asks for a lot. Hertz's personal leasing FAQ lists a passport with visa page, Emirates ID, a UAE driving licence, an Etihad Credit Bureau authorisation, a credit card, and a salary certificate or bank statement. It charges AED 300 to set up the insurance and lease file, AED 50 for a Salik tag, and an AED 300 processing fee if the application is rejected.

A bank loan needs 20% down, runs for at most 60 months, and under Central Bank rules your total debt repayments cannot exceed 50% of your income.

We ask for two documents: your Emirates ID and your UAE driving licence. We do not ask for a salary certificate, bank statements, a salary transfer, a trade licence or an AECB score. A decision usually comes within 24 hours. We still read and decide every application ourselves, and some are declined.

That matters most to freelancers, new residents in their first months, business owners paid in dividends rather than salary, and anyone who would rather not add a new credit line to their AECB file before applying for a mortgage. Our documents guide and our no-credit-check page go through it in more detail.

Which contract clauses cost money on a multi-year lease?

Deposit or advance. Often one month's rent, or a block on your credit card. Ask when it comes back: outstanding fines and Salik charges usually have to be cleared first.

Kilometre cap. Dollar UAE's 2026 comparison puts typical lease limits at 2,500–4,000 km a month, and Hertz allows up to 30,000 km a year. Zigwheels, a UAE motoring site, reported lease overage at AED 0.50–1.00 per km in December 2025, while marketplace rentals today state AED 2–5 per km. A Dubai Marina to Abu Dhabi commute three days a week uses about 3,600 km a month by itself. On our lease the standard allowance is 25,000 km a year, with 35,000 and 50,000 km packages at discounted rates that you can pick at signing or upgrade to mid-term. Our excess rate is AED 10 per km, higher than these market figures, so if you expect to drive more than 25,000 km a year, take a package at signing. Buying the package up front costs less than paying for the excess.

Early termination on an operating lease. Contracts use a fixed number of months, a percentage of the remaining rentals, or repricing at a higher rate. Zigwheels reported in December 2025 that ending in year one can cost the remaining payments plus a penalty of about 35%: on its example of an AED 2,000-a-month, three-year lease ended after 12 months, AED 64,800 in all. In year two it put the cost at the remaining payments plus about 25% and AED 3,000–8,000 of depreciation, and in the final quarter at an admin fee of about AED 500. Those are reported figures, not universal ones. Ask for the total owed at months 6, 12 and 20, as numbers.

Early exit on our lease. You can settle the contract and take the car at any time, with no early-settlement penalty. Ending early without buying is handled under the contract, so talk to us before you miss a payment. There is a seven-day grace period, after which the car can be immobilised remotely until the balance is paid, and we always contact you first. Our guide to a cancelled visa or lost job covers that situation step by step.

Return inspection. Operating leases end with a wear-and-tear assessment, and the same Zigwheels piece reported leasing-company repair prices at two to three times independent-shop rates. Get an independent check 60–90 days before the return date and fix what you can. Lease-to-own has no return inspection, because the car becomes yours.

Salik and fines. Salik costs AED 6 at peak (06:00–10:00 and 16:00–20:00, Monday to Saturday) and AED 4 off-peak, is free from 01:00 to 06:00, and costs AED 4 on Sundays. Since 1 June 2026, 5% VAT applies, making it AED 6.30 and AED 4.20. Some lessors add an admin fee per crossing or per fine, so ask for it in writing. On our lease we provide the Salik tag, you keep it topped up, and we forward fines promptly.

Usage rules. On our cars, off-road and desert driving, track days and driving outside the UAE are prohibited: the insurance does not cover them, and the car is registered to us. Towing is allowed with the right licence category if you tell us in advance, and the insurance may cost more.

Which option fits you, and when are we the wrong choice?

  • Operating lease: you want a new car every two or three years, you can show a salary certificate or bank statements and have a clean credit file, your mileage is predictable, and you never want to sell a car. It is also the right home for a budget of AED 1,800–4,000 a month. That is not our market: our median car is from AED 9,395 a month.
  • Rolling monthly rental: you are on probation, your stay is uncertain, or you need a car for less than a year.
  • Bank loan: usually the cheapest total if you qualify, have 20% down and accept the lien and a new line on your credit file.
  • Lease-to-own: you are staying two to three years or more, want the car at the end, cannot or will not provide income documents, or want to keep your AECB file untouched. Zero down on 12- and 24-month plans; 36 months on selected cars.

Bring Your Own, if you have already found the car. If the car you want is on Dubizzle or at a dealer, our Bring Your Own programme buys it and leases it to you. It takes listings from AED 150,000, model year 2023 or newer, not a Chinese brand and not fully electric (hybrids are fine). The car passes our technical and legal checks before we agree to buy it. Plans are priced on the listing plus 5% VAT, because we buy on the company, from 20% down over 12, 24 or 36 months, with no final payment: the car is yours after the last monthly. An AED 150,000 listing over 24 months is from AED 8,108 a month and from AED 39,500 to start. An AED 250,000 listing over 36 months is from AED 10,320 a month and from AED 65,625 to start.

What should you get in writing before you sign?

For any long-term lease or rental:

  • The total payable over the full term, including VAT
  • The advance or deposit, and exactly when it is refunded
  • The kilometre cap and the excess rate per kilometre
  • The amount you would owe if you ended at month 6, 12 or 20
  • The return-condition standard, and who assesses it
  • The insurance excess, and whether repairs go to the agency or a garage
  • Whether you get a replacement car, and how quickly
  • Admin fees on Salik crossings and fines
  • What happens if your visa is cancelled

For lease-to-own, add:

  • Who the registered owner is during the term, and how and when the transfer to you happens
  • Whether there is any final payment at the end (there is none on our standard plan)
  • How the annual payment is calculated and what it covers
  • Which servicing you pay for

The cheapest product is the one whose ending matches your plans. Run your own 12-, 24- and 36-month numbers on our lease calculator, look at real cars and their monthlies on our cars page, and set every quote you collect next to them as a total, not a monthly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a long-term car lease cost in Dubai in 2026?

As of October 2026, Selfdrive's cheapest new car is AED 1,849 a month excluding VAT, all-inclusive. Mercedes-Benz Abu Dhabi advertises a new GLC 200 4MATIC from AED 4,999 a month on a 12-month, 25,000 km package with an unstated down payment, and renting a 2024–25 GLC 200 by the month costs AED 8,999–12,000. Our lease-to-own median is from AED 9,395 a month at 20% down over 36 months (24 on some cars), with insurance and registration paid separately once a year.

Is a 2-year car lease in Dubai cheaper than renting monthly?

It depends on what the car is worth at the end. Our AED 200,000 GLC over 24 months at 20% down totals from AED 296,808, about AED 299,750 with servicing, so against an AED 9,000-a-month rental it must resell above about AED 83,750. Five-year-old GLC 200s were listed at AED 95,000–119,750 in October 2026, so a private sale clears that and a dealer trade-in roughly breaks even. You also need from AED 50,000 on day one.

What is the difference between a car lease and lease-to-own in the UAE?

A car lease in the UAE usually means an operating lease: the lessor owns the car, the monthly includes insurance, registration and servicing, and you return the car at the end. With lease-to-own the car is registered to the leasing company during the term and becomes yours after the last payment. With us, insurance and registration are a separate annual payment and servicing is yours.

Are 1-year car lease deals in Dubai worth it?

They can be, if you will stay the full year. A free 13th month for paying 12 is worth about 7.7% off the effective monthly. Read the exit terms: one published rental policy takes one month's rent as a deposit plus the first month, and charges an extra month's rent for early return. Ask whether the free month disappears if you leave early.

Is insurance included in a long-term car lease in Dubai?

On operating leases and long rentals, comprehensive insurance is normally in the monthly; check the excess and whether repairs are at the agency. On our lease-to-own plans it is not in the monthly. Comprehensive insurance and RTA registration are one annual payment of 5% of the car's price, minimum AED 8,000, which we renew for you each year.

What documents do I need for a long-term car lease in Dubai?

Operating lessors such as Hertz ask for a passport with visa, Emirates ID, a UAE driving licence, a credit bureau authorisation, a credit card, and a salary certificate or bank statement. We ask for two documents, your Emirates ID and UAE driving licence, with no income proof or AECB score. A decision usually comes within 24 hours, and we still decide every application individually.

What happens if I end a long-term car lease early?

On an operating lease the contract sets an early-termination charge. Zigwheels reported in December 2025 that ending in year one can cost the remaining payments plus about 35%, and in year two the remaining payments plus about 25% and depreciation, so ask for the amount owed at months 6, 12 and 20. On our lease you can settle early and take the car with no penalty; ending without buying is handled under the contract.
